a magical experience at VAN GOGH IS BIPOLAR

yes.. its a weird and funny name for a restaurant but if you're craving for a unique private dining experience, VAN GOGH IS BIPOLAR is definitely the place to be.. This is something new to us! A perfect way to celebrate our 2nd year wedding anniversary! Let me take you to a tour to wonderland.
no shoes allowed inside. and i was giggling while entering the resto barefoot.
this is the kitchen counter. there are no servers. Jetro, the owner and the creative mind behind this amazing place greeted us with a big big smile. ~~ see that baby shoe with a mushroom-like plant? thats real!
read the house rules! its a must! there were around 10 people when we got there plus gian and me? 12! perfect!
our assigned table. its right beside his bedroom. well i just assumed. It says "ASYLUM Do not enter". so must be a private space. Oh! I just fell in love with that projector. a big clock behind us. sweet!
the blue room! its where you wash your hands. Jetro is also a photographer and he used to develop pictures inside this room. We all have skeletons in our closet right? and here in VGIB, you can freely write your deepest darkest secrets on the closet walls.
right beside the blue room is the COMFORT ROOM with a funny poster at the door. my jaw dropped! its soooo nice.. ive never seen a washroom this beautiful.. its an art space! i feel like im alice in wonderland! *giggles*
a few more cute stuff inside the CR. really cute. right behind the door i read a very sweet proposal note/letter. the original copy from probably one of the customers. awww.... IZA KATARINA is one lucky girl! *hearts all over*
and.. i totally forgot about the food! this is our appetizer. well gian got the CHILL type and I got the adventurous one. His was mozarella melted with caviar white wine and mine was an organic egg dipped in hot water and a shot glass filled with honey and black sauce. i cracked the egg open, poured the yolk to the glass, stirred it quickly and took the shot! it was yummy! i didnt expect it. an egg with a kick!
bell rings again! and voila! a glass full of orange, watermelon, guava and all the fruity ingredients you can think of.. Its called Courtney Love's Potion of the Day. Refreshing.
everytime i hear the kitchen bell ring, i eagerly wait for the suprise dish while gian gets it for me. now.. the soup! its sour and salty and hmm.. different. gian said his taste buds had never been so confused. true that!
in between, id stand up and take pictures of anything i see that makes my heart skip. like this very creative water dispenser. and mugs, bottles, clocks and what-nots hanging.
while i was searching the house for more treasures, i saw this cute corner with a red wall full of writings. we would have conquered this space if we came earlier. there are also interesting pictures and i envy jetro for owning a vintage globe. i want one for my future home someday.
next up, salad! Freshly boiled whole cabbage with crispy fried small fish, salted egg and fresh kitchen ingredients (mangoes, green apples, strawberry syrup cashew nuts) and a black sauce dip at the side. at this point, i was already full. i had to rest and let the food settle. TETRIS style. hahah
i found crazy hats too.. gian was hesitant to wear his hat while i was very proud! heheh. thats me letting the food settle slowly.. im sure gian was secretly doing it as well.. hmmf!

and for the main dish! ooohhh... this time, i went to the kitchen counter to get our food and I asked jetro who was also the chef what the dish was called. I got a smile as a reply. a pause. "Its spontaneous cooking!" he said. nice.. very nice indeed! its chicken and fish with baby potatoes, minced guava, green apples and beans. and black rice. the rarest in the philippines. he said this rice triggers happy hormones. awesome! i was high! i was on a natural high. it felt really good.
someone was kind enough to take a picture of us. this is our only picture together. thank u ate foodie! :) HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO US!
finally, dessert! gian was too excited he downed his share right away before i could even open mine. Its called Mel Gibson’s Darkest Sin. the name sounds so cool. Curious? It is vodka served in test tube, absinthe with a dark chocolate and almond nut in a separate shot glass. you will vividly remember how drinking this, feels like~~the bitter-sweet flavor slowly going down your throat and the warmth after. FANTASTIC!
time for a cup of tea. gian and i are fans of tea. we store bags at home, good to end a long tiring day. almost everything in this restaurant is interactive. I picked my own teapot and made my own tea. the jars are labeled according to your mood. i specifically chose the avocado soothing tea. and i was sipping my tiny tea cup with a big smile and a cute crazy hat
i explored more of the place. i couldnt seem to get enough of it. trinkets here and there. RELAX... oh yeah.....
theres a red corner too.. i wanted to carve our names on the table but it was difficult so i just wrote our initials and the date with the hope that when we get back, the mark will still be there. gian also wrote a letter for jetro on his cute voodoo doll notebook.
"For billing put payment in the red box. Get your own change and receipt." Yes sir! You have to write your own receipt here. Honesty is the best policy!

Meet Jetro! the master! yes! he is young and good looking and has the funniest apron! MWAHAH! He asked me "Gusto mo ba bahay ko?" I nodded! How could i not love it? It was a living art space. I admire his passion so much. It was not just a restaurant, it was like a sanctuary. A place where he could express himself. His creativity with interior designing and food. I wish I could have my very own place to chill like this someday.
